A typical meal plan for weight loss consists of replacing 2 of your meals with the Herbalife Formula 1 Shake, having 1 regular meal, and having 2 snacks between your meals. We recommend you always have the shake for breakfast, and then choose either breakfast or dinner according to your schedule and needs. For some people, having a shake for breakfast and lunch might be a bit too much to go without “regular” food, so many opt to replace their breakfast and dinner, while having a regular lunch. One of the most important – and most misunderstood – parts of losing weight is the need to have regular meals. When you completely stop eating (as many people do while on a diet), your metabolism slows down, and you start losing muscles and nutrients, while you start storing more and more fat.
The most common meal that is skipped is breakfast – and this is believe it or not, one of the leading causes of obesity. Skipping breakfast slows down your metabolism, lowers your blood sugar levels so that you crave sweets and unhealthy snacks more, and frequently leaves you so hungry that you eat far more for lunch than you normally would.
Having snacks is also important to keep your metabolism going, and to prevent you from feeling too hungry during the day. Being on a diet or wanting to lose weight does not mean that you need to starve yourself – if your are constantly hungry, chances are that you will stop with your new plan much before you get to your goal.
As for the one regular meal you have during the day, you can relax a bit. You are already saving a lot of calories by having the shake for 2 meals (one shake is only 220 calories, which is about 1/5th the calorie count of a McDonald’s meal). Still, try to make healthy choices – go for lean meat, vegetables, fish and whole grains. The more you take care of yourself, the better and faster you will see the results you want.
And finally – accept the fact that you will cheat on your program from time to time. It is nothing to worry about, 1-2 bad meals a week will not cause any irreversible damage, the point is to enjoy life as well. Just try to make these bad meals an exception to your week, and not something regular.
